An goal or objective is a personal or organizational desired end point in development. It is usually endeavoured to be reached in finite time by setting deadlines. It may be short term goals or long term goals. Short-term and long-term goals are important tools in measuring success. They are used in a variety of areas: financial, personal and business to name a few. Setting and tracking goals is an important step in achieving success in almost any endeavor.

Short-term goal : A short-term goal is something to be accomplished in a short period of time. There is no specific length of time related to the definition of a short-term goal. That is to say, a short term goal may be achieved in a day, week, month, year, etc. The time frame for a short-term goal is related to its context in the overall timeline that it is being applied to. For instance, a short-term goal for a month long project may be measured in days where as a short-term goal for someone’s life might be measured by months or years. Short-term goals are usually defined in relation to a long-term goal or goals.

Long-term goal : A long-term goal is an achievement set to be reached over a long period of time. The period of time defined for reaching the goal can be almost any length of time; although most long-term goals tend to be measured in years. It would be appropriate to define a long-term goal for this week, month, year, lifetime, etc. The definition of a long-term goal usually involves setting short-term goals to divide the timeline of achieving the long-term goal.

Goal Management : Good project management technique states goals/objectives can be better defined by following the guidelines from using the SMART acronym:

Specific - Objective or goal can't be diffuse or nebulous but should be precisely defined Measurable - Define a method of measuring the objective/goal Agreed-To/Achievable - All parties need to agree to the objective/goal, and it also must be achievable Realistic/Rewarding/Relevant - It must be a realistic objective/goal, and it must make sense to do it !!! Time-related - to be completed within an agreed time scale

Personal goals : Individuals can have personal goals. A student may set a goal of a high mark in an exam. An athlete might walk five miles a day. A traveler might try to reach his destination city within three hours. Managing goals can give returns in all areas of life. By knowing exactly what one wants to achieve, makes clear what to concentrate and improve upon. Goal setting, planning and achievement give long-term vision and short-term motivation. It focuses acquisition of knowledge and helps to organize resources.

Efficient goal management includes recognizing and resolving any guilt, inner conflict or limiting belief that might cause you to sabotage your efforts. By setting clearly defined goals, one can measure and take pride in the achievement of those goals. Achieving personal goals

Success in any field will require foregoing blaming, excuses and justifications for poor performance or lack of adequate planning or in short emotional maturity. In an organizational or business context, it may be an effective tool for making progress by ensuring that participants are clearly aware of what is expected from them, if an objective is to be achieved. On a personal level, Goal setting is a process that allows people to specify then work towards their own objectives - most commonly with financial or career-based goals. Goal setting is a major component of Personal development literature.

In business, goal setting has the advantages of encouraging participants to put in substantial effort; and, because every member is aware of what is expected of him or her (high role perception), little room is left for inadequate effort going unnoticed. To be most effective goals should be tangible, specific, realistic and have a time targeted for completion. There must be realistic plans to achieve the intended goal. For example, setting a goal to go to Mars on a shoe string budget is not a realistic goal while setting a goal to go to Hawaii on a boat is a possible goal with possible, realistic plans.

The more you dedicate yourself the more challenges will emerge with clear possibilities, for accomplishment and success. It’s no secret wealth abounds in our affluent society and is there for the taking. You will be a powerful driving force, speeding down the superhighway of success.

Who’s heart is in the right place Chances are, you, like so many other people, have not thought of the possibilities in the personal aspects of financial freedom. Perhaps up to this point, you have been working hard for someone else and never thought of or believed in the possibilities of your potential. You have just never taken the time to really think about it. Many people are unhappy Unfortunately, there are many people who are unhappy in their jobs and relationships. They fear life and work hard to survive the constant pressures the world places upon them. It a daily struggle to keep their heads above water and their sanity is challenged with a deluge of violence and sex at every turn. They have become enslaved because their environment has allowed surrounding circumstance to determine how their lives are to lived. These are the masses who go to work every day with untold burdens they can't get rid of. They have become servants to those who plunder and take advantage of their plight. (and guaranteed there many) They are threatened, abused and punished by society and government without explanation. They are unjustly fired by those who weld their power as a sword of domination.

You seen them, on the interstate in the morning, glassy eyed, hollow and unresponsive as they move toward their respective cubbyholes. There are no, smiles, joy or expatiations in fact there is little sign of life at all, only despair. And where is God? Right there, setting beside them, but they never look around. The background noise is so loud they can’t hear. They stare ahead with unseeing eyes and quenched spirit; going nowhere and dead at heart.

You are alive and well If you are to succeed in you quest for wealth, you must first have the correct mindset. Don’t be afraid to dream, for deep within your dreams is your purpose for being. Your personal ambitions and goals are there, ready for you to claim them and mold them into a well adjusted happily productive life. Reach out and embrace them, like a flower, a butterfly, a precious thing that was always there waiting . . . just beyond your grasp, in the shadows, seemingly afraid to be know. Your dreams cannot be vague or general; they must be acute, spelled out in detail, and specific. You must know exactly what you desire and then build a fire around it. You must build a burning desire, a flame that can't be put out. Against all odds, no matter the cost, you must see this dream as your life unfolding and protect it at all cost, as you persevere to the end.

I have a theory on doing business. If my business is good, it's not because of the weather, the time of year or the economy. It's because of me. I'm doing something right. Through the years I've done some anthropomaximology of my own and found there are certain qualities that describe successful business people. Here are a few:

1 They constantly set higher goals Successful business people are mountain climbers who, having climbed one peak, look beyond to the next highest. They are the retailers who send 1,500 mailers to their customers and yield a good turnout of 100. But instead of being satisfied with 100, they ask how they can increase that number to 150 the next time.

For example, Donald Kelley of Kelley Frame and Art Galleries, with locations in Minnesota and Wisconsin, continually tries to improve his e-mail list. "My goal is to collect 150 new e-mail names every month and send out a new e-mail message to this list every two weeks."

2 They avoid "comfort zones" To a successful person, standing still feels like going backwards. People who stay in their comfort zones do what they did before because it's "the way we've always done it:" They run the same ads, buy the same merchandise in the same way and avoid anything new, different or unusual because they feel they might do something wrong. They blame any lack of business on the weather, the time of the year, the economy--anything except for themselves.

Successful gallery owners attend art shows, read catalogs and visit other galleries in their travels. They are always searching to find unique art exclusive to their galleries. They take control of their own destiny and market their businesses as exciting destinations.

3 They are driven by accomplishments, not money

Successful people follow the theory of Apple Computer's founder Steve Jobs, who said, "The journey is the reward." They are customer focused, not product focused. Their thrill is not the ringing of the register but the crowds responding to their mailing. For them, there is no greater high than a line outside the store before the doors open.

4 They solve problems rather than place blame

A telephone pole blocked the view of Ron Bishop's Canadian gallery. He knew it would be difficult, if not impossible, to have the telephone pole moved. His solution was to paint the pole with an Impressionistic theme. Once it was finished, the local paper came, took a picture and wrote a story about it. "It was great publicity," said Bishop. "And then the calls started coming, asking, 'Is it for sale?'"

Successful gallery owners do not waste their time looking at problems and saying, "It's not our fault" or "Why didn't we ..." They say, "Let's look at what went wrong and realize it was a learning experience and figure out how we can make it work next time."

When a customer hears it will take a week or longer to have their art framed, and says, "Sorry, that's too long," do you shrug your shoulders and say, "Well, that's how long it takes." Or do you think, "Hmmmm, if that's what the customer wants, how can I solve their problem?"

5 They look at the worst possible scenario

"What's the worst possible result if we follow this plan?" they ask themselves. Then, knowing that, they decide if the risk-taking is practical.

However, once they make the decision, they proceed with the confidence, knowledge and expertise necessary to make it work.

They understand the most harmful result and then decide if they can live with the outcome. If they can, they move ahead. Confidently.

Galleries that concentrate on one type of art often decide to reach into an unrelated area. Sometimes a gallery will fail in an attempt to broaden their focus, but successful performers understand even defeat is a learning experience.

6 They rehearse the future as they see it

Successful people move towards the pictures they create in their mind. They can rehearse coming actions or events as they "see" them. They are like chess players who can "feel" the next move of their opponent and have half a dozen responses ready when their time comes to move.
